Introducing The Alastair Swayn Foundation

The Alastair Swayn Foundation is a Not-for-Profit foundation, established by Alastair Swayn AO and dedicated to the Knowledge, Research and Education of all things in Australian Design. The Foundation encourages and supports talented and innovative Australian designers through a range of funding initiatives, providing opportunities to pursue excellence for the enrichment of knowledge in architecture and design disciplines in Australia and is established for the public charitable object of advancing culture and cultural education by:  

  • exploring, presenting and promoting Australian design and its influences;

  • showcasing Australian leadership in design;

  • building public awareness and appreciation of the value of design;

  • stimulating and fostering research, design education and the exchange of ideas about design;

  • building international design exhibition connections;

  • complementing and extending the portfolio of national cultural exhibitions in Australia and overseas; and

  • promoting, supporting and advising on the collection, conservation and display of design records.


Explore the Opportunity 

The Foundation has a vacancy for a Grants and Engagement Manager to join their team. Based in Canberra, this full-time role is responsible for managing the Foundations:

  • grants programs including growing the number and quality of our programs;

  • sponsorships, partnerships and collaborations; and 

  • websites and social media platforms. 

In this pivotal role, you’ll work closely with the CEO to help ensure the Foundations strategic objectives are met.

To be great at this role, you’ll be an energetic self-starter with the resilience to work in a fast-paced environment with sometimes changing proprieties. You’ll have:  

  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be a natural and confident communicator; 

  • strong leadership skills and be able to engage and influence a broad range of people;

  • the ability to effectively manage projects across the full project cycle;

  • strong financial acumen and be confident and comfortable working towards targets and tracking the progress of annual budgets and KPIs;

  • the ability to recognise current and future potential challenges and adapt accordingly to ensure program growth; 

  • an eye for details, you’ll be tech-savvy and exceptionally organised, with proven ability to make decisions, solve problems, prioritise tasks, forward plan, meet deadlines, and deliver results effectively and creatively; 

  • a team player attitude and be willing to roll your sleeves up and help out the broader team; and 

  • experience working in a similar role. 

Ideally you’ll have a Design background however, if you don’t but you do tick the boxes with your other experience then they would love to hear from you.
