DIA Celebrates New South Wales Fellows

Yasmine Ghoniem, Diane Fernandes and Melanie Mackenzie

The Design Institute of Australia recently celebrated three outstanding members with fellowships at a ceremony hosted by Bang & Olufsen in Double Bay.

The 2025 fellows include Melanie Mackenzie, who has led crucial legislative advocacy efforts in NSW for the past three years. As head of the working group on legislative change, Mackenzie has been instrumental in negotiations with government officials to secure interior design's rightful place in upcoming regulations. Her passionate approach has rallied the community and created positive momentum for the profession.

Diane Fernandes received her fellowship in recognition of her multifaceted contributions as a design leader, educator, and advocate. Her ongoing work with the DIA NSW Advocacy Working Group and her championing of professional registration for interior designers has made a lasting impact on the industry's development.

The ceremony also celebrated Yasmine Ghoniem, whose award-winning projects and significant media presence have elevated the profile of interior design. Through innovation and compelling storytelling, Ghoniem has helped educate the public about the value and importance of quality design.

The DIA extends its sincere gratitude to Bang & Olufsen for graciously hosting this special event at their elegant Double Bay showroom, providing the perfect setting to honour these remarkable design professionals.
