The Design Institute of Australia NSW Branch Council invites designers and design students to networking drinks to catch up with the DIA NSW Council and receive updates on the DIA program of events and advocacy priorities. This event provides a wonderful opportunity for designers to catch up, form new relationships and explore opportunities for collaboration.

Proudly supported by Kaolin at their stunning new showroom, enjoy generous hospitality and a bartender shaking up fabulous cocktails!

You'll also have the opportunity to learn about the recent technological advancements in porcelain tile manufacturing that have led to significant improvements in quality and possibilities. Staun Rasmussenfrom Kaolin Tileswill provide a short overview of the production process, including crucial aspects of porcelain tile quality and how to identify them when specifying. He will also highlight important considerations for compliance with the latest Australian Standards such as grout joint size, bowing, and slip ratings.

Kaolin Tiles is the only company in Australia to be third-party verified and achieve the highest Green Certification for all their products. Therefore, Staun will also discuss the sustainability and safety of porcelain, particularly in relation to its use as an alternative to engineered or natural stone for different applications.

Kaolin Tiles is a family-owned manufacturing company that has been in operation for 25 years, specializing in high-quality large-format porcelain natural stone reproductions. They are a true leader in technology and sustainability, as evidenced by theirLevel A Global Green Tag Certification, making them the first Chinese tile factory ever to achieve this distinction. Kaolin offers premium products that are infused with ancient craftsmanship and advanced practices, setting them apart in the industry.

The learning outcomes of this program include the ability to identify the primary ingredients of porcelain tiles and their impact on the tile body and quality, as well as an understanding of the environmental impact and sustainability of porcelain tile manufacturing, and the final product. Participants will also learn to differentiate between pressed-to-size tiles and cut-to-size tiles and their impact on quality, identify the quality of printing on tiles, and understand seamless joint tiling technology. Additionally, the program covers updates to the latest regulations of AS 3958.1 (Ceramic Tiles) and HB 198 - Slip Ratings.

As part of the DIA’s Accredited Designer program, we offer Continuing Professional Development (CPD) through our learning resources. CPD is most effective if undertaken continuously to ensure a currency of skills and knowledge. Attendance at this event is worth 1CPD points.
