2016 Queensland Design Fellows

This month we celebrated our recent Fellowship inductee, Petra Perolini and recent Life Fellowship inductee, Peter Florentzos and reflected on their great achievements and contribution to design in Queensland at our Recent Summer Soiree.

Petra Perolini FDIA
Petra started her career in architectural studies but quickly found herself gravitating towards the design aspects, and subsequently completed studies in both interior design and urban design. This broader approach of understanding space helped her professional development by allowing her to engage with every facet of the design process.

In her eighteen years working as a design practitioner, Petra has been involved in a wide variety of projects ranging from master planning, interior design projects, client interaction, project management and project administration to detailing and construction. In 2007 Petra joined QCA as a lecturer in interior design where she teaches into a number of foundation courses and studio majors. 2007 also saw Petra join the Design Institute of Australia Queensland Branch Council, as a volunteer Councillor representing the Education Portfolio, where she worked alongside the team for several years.

When she is not teaching, Petra’s research focus is examining the role of interior design and interior design education as a key player in the constructed environment and the powerful position it occupies but largely fails to understand. Her interests explore making essential links between understanding the complexity interior design ontologically occupies and a predominantly non-reflective practice approach.

Petra is currently working for Griffith University, Queensland College of Art, as the Program Director for Interior Design and Environments (South Bank). The Design Institute of Australia recognizes Petra Perolini, for her demonstrated outstanding ability, experience and achievement in a Design Profession.

Petra was unfortunately unable to attend the Summer Soiree to receive her Fellowship in person, although Dr Beck Davis did so on her behalf.

Peter’s contribution to the design industry locally, nationally and internationally is significant and it is impossible to mention all of his achievements tonight - but we will mention a few....

Design Institute of Australia CEO, Jo Kellock says “Peter’s passion for the design sector is reflected in the priority he has given to the Design Institute over many years. Not only has he performed many representative roles but he has worked tirelessly behind the scenes nurturing relationships and creating opportunities for Australian designers and for the State of Queensland.   We celebrate Peter’s generous contribution and look forward to his ongoing support.”

Given the significance of Peter’s contributions to the design community at a local, state, national and International level and on behalf of the Design Institute of Australia Queensland Branch, we were proud to award Peter Florentzos with his Life Fellowship.
