DIA members have exclusive access to a range of services, products and discounts chosen to advance their careers and business success. The DIA welcomes both professional designers and non-designers as members.

Professional membership

Membership of the DIA is an investment in your design career. Our professional members are students and graduates of design and experienced design professionals.

Our definition of a ‘professional designer’ is a person who holds (or is studying towards) an Advanced Diploma or a Degree in design (that is, courses rated AQF 6 and 7 by the Australian Federal Government’s Australian Qualification Framework). The only exception is for design disciplines where the highest undergraduate qualification is an AQF 5 Diploma. This typically applies to digital media, furniture design and interior decoration.

The DIA represents professional designers across a wide range of design disciplines. Our programs are centred on creativity, innovation, design and business and are usually of interest and assistance to a broad audience. When we offer discipline-specific programs, they are typically targeted towards:

  • Spatial designers (interior design, interior architecture and interior decoration)
  • Communications designers (graphics, digital media, web, exhibitions, film and set)
  • Object designers (furniture, industrial, textiles and fashion)
  • Systems designers and design managers
  • Design educators
Non-designer membership

Our non-designer members are typically people who service and support the design sector or are simply people interested in design. Membership of the DIA provides opportunities to connect with Australia’s designers and the national design conversation.
